A St. Paul man is in custody after assaulting his pregnant girlfriend after a baby shower Sunday evening, according to authorities.

According to St. Paul Police spokesperson Steve Linders, the incident happened near the intersection of Maryland and Payne avenues just after 6 p.m.

The victim, who is eight months pregnant, told police she and her boyfriend, identified as Lance Lamar Booth, 24, were arguing after leaving a baby shower her family had thrown for her. She said she was driving when her boyfriend threw her out of the car, then got out and dragged her by her hair as he left the scene.

She was taken to Regions Hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening to her or the fetus. Linders said her sister arrived at the hospital and took a 10-month-old baby who was in the backseat of the car.

Booth was eventually pulled over by police shortly after the incident. He was reportedly intoxicated, obstinate and arrested for a variety of crimes ranging from criminal vehicle operation to felony domestic assault and felony child endangerment.
