Several major ramps are closing in Minneapolis starting Monday morning.
The ramp from I-94 westbound to 11th Street closed just after midnight on Monday as part of the larger I-35W: Downtown to Crosstown project. Traffic will be detoured to the Hennepin/Lyndale Avenue exit. From there, motorists will be directed north on Hennepin Avenue to 12th Street.
The ramps from I-394 eastbound to I-94 westbound and northbound Lyndale Avenue to I-94 westbound are scheduled to close early Monday, April 23 as well. I-394 drivers will be detoured to Highway 100, Olson Memorial Highway, and Lyndale Avenue. Folks traveling on Lyndale Avenue, can continue traveling north and reconnect with I-94 westbound north of Broadway Avenue.
These closures are related to the I-94 Brooklyn Center to Minneapolis project that had a big impact on drivers in the west metro last year. This is the final year of that project.
The Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge is closing today for repairs. The pedestrian bridge crosses I-94 between the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and Loring Park. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, painting the bridge will require 3 weekend closures of I-94 between I-35W and I-394 coming up in May.
A project in the north metro is finally underway after being postponed for several weeks due to unfavorable weather.
This week, you'll find off-peak lane closures on I-35 in both directions between Highway 97 and Hwy 8 in the Forest Lake/Columbus area. Starting Friday night, crews will begin switching traffic to its new temporary configuration.
Once the switch is in place, I-35 northbound will be reduced to two lanes until early August. All ramps are open for now, however the eastbound Hwy 8 ramp is set to close in May. Another tip: If you want to exit on Broadway Ave. or Hwy 8, you'll need to stay in the right lane as you approach the construction zone.
In the north metro, off-peak lane closures will kick off next week along Highway 169 between East Hayden Lake Road and the Mississippi River in Champlin. The work was supposed to start a week or two ago but is running behind due to the recent snowfall and cooler than normal temperatures. Starting in early May, the roadway will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Highway 610 in Brooklyn Park and East Hayden Lake Road in Champlin for resurfacing. The project is expected to create major traffic delays. To learn more information on this project, click here.
A major ramp along I-94 in Hudson, Wisconsin will close for a couple of days next week. I-94 westbound to Wisconsin 35 southbound is scheduled to close starting at 7 a.m. Monday, April 23 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 25. Crews will make repairs to the pavement on the ramp.
