Loaves and Fishes begins serving meals in town that lost its only grocery store

A church has opened a new dining site to supplement the food needs of a Minnesota community that lost its only grocery store.

Loaves and Fishes opened Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Farmington. Last month, Farmington's only grocery store, Family Fresh Market, closed.

The organization hopes the new site will help local families get access to fresh and healthy food. The Rev. Karen Evenson, the church's pastor, said Loaves and Fishes will be a positive thing for everyone involved.

"This is in so many ways good for everybody — people who are going to come for a meal, people who are going to help cook the meal, people who are going to greet people and sit at the tables," Evenson said. "So it's really good for everybody as a whole."

Loaves and Fishes will serve meals from 5:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
