Life Time Fitness to close its women-only gym in Roseville

The closure of a Twin Cities gym is hitting its members hard.

The Life Time Fitness in Roseville that is open to women only is set to close. The gym's members may have a difficult time finding a replacement.

"I'm kind of disappointed because there's no other Life Time closer," Kaycie Traeger said.

Traeger chose the gym specifically because it is only open to women.

"It's more comfortable," Traeger said. "You don't have to worry about anyone coming up to you and talking to you or looking at you, so it feels good."

Life Time Fitness said the closure is due to the end of its lease at the Roseville location.

Because of the closure, Life Time Fitness has extended access to other locations for the Roseville members.

A number of Muslim women told KSTP the gym gives them a place where they are comfortable to work out in a hijab.

One member, who identified herself only as Alexis, says she'll miss the friendliness of those who used the gym.

"Everyone is more supportive and kind of work together to go towards a goal rather than focus on anything else," she said.

A Life Time Fitness representative told KSTP the company does not have a plan at this time to open up another women-only gym.
