Lakeville teen lands dream job after going public with job-hunt challenges

Updated: July 22, 2019 08:20 PM

Logan Swedberg, 18, is the newest employee at Gander Outdoors in Lakeville, and he might be the only one to ever be hired personally, on the spot, by the company's CEO.

"He said, 'I watched your video and I want to offer you a job,'" said Swedberg.

We first introduced you to Logan two weeks ago. He is the manager of the Lakeville North football team and an avid outdoorsman and angler. He was born with severe scoliosis and other health complications, and has had more than 35 surgeries at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.

This summer, when he started looking for a job, no one would hire him. Logan said he was asked inappropriate questions and believes his condition was the reason he couldn't find a job.

"I think they just think I can't do the same thing as other people can do," he said.

After Logan went public with his job-hunt challenges, he received a tweet from Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of Gander Outdoors and star of CNBC's show "The Profit."  The tweet said, "you have a job with me right now." And he meant it. Logan started three days later at Gander's Lakeville location.

He also had offers from other businesses and organizations like the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Wild. But, for an angler like Logan, the job at Gander was his top choice.

"It feels really good to finally see my hard work pay off. I've gone through a lot so it feels really good to be standing right here. I'm happy," said Logan.
