Lakeville teen has overcome a life of challenges, hopes a part-time job isn't one of them

Eighteen-year-old Logan Swedberg was born with severe scoliosis and other health complications. He is a patient at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare and has had more than 35 surgeries there during his lifetime.

But he has hardly let any of that get in his way.

He has his license and drives using special pedal extenders his dad made him, he loves the outdoors and fishing and is the team manager for the state champion Lakeville North football team.

You would think all of this would make Logan the idea job candidate. He's been applying for part-time positions at different businesses around Lakeville. Unfortunately, the response everywhere has been the same.

"I think they just think I can't do the same things other people can do," Logan said.

"He has been asked some very inappropriate questions. He's had to fight from day one, and sometimes it's not fair," said Logan's, mom Tara Swedberg.

Logan's coaches are helping him with his job search. He hopes to share his experience as a reminder of all the things that kids like him are capable of.

"I work hard and never give up. I tell that to all the kids who have surgeries or are scared," he said. "I tell them never give up and you'll get through it."
