Diver Dies at Shipwreck Madeira Along Superior's North Shore

Authorities in northeastern Minnesota say a shipwreck diver has died along the north shore of Lake Superior.

An inspector with the Lake County Sheriff's Office said the department received a call Saturday at 1:11 p.m. reporting a diver in distress at the site of the shipwreck Madeira near the Split Rock Lighthouse. The sheriff's office says the dive site was accessed through the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park.

Arriving authorities administered medical attention, but the diver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The diver's identity will be released pending notification of the family.
