A Hennepin County jury convicted a man who authorities say operated a sex-trafficking ring that brought women from China to Edina and Richfield for commercial sex.

According to a release from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Sonam Tsering was found guilty of one count of promotion of prostitution, one count of receiving profits from prostitution and two counts of sex trafficking.

According to a criminal complaint, police located an ad for sex with Asain women on backpage.com in November 2016.

When an officer went to an apartment in Edina, the officer was met by a woman in lingerie, the complaint said. The officer attempted to interview the woman, but she did not speak English.

The complaint said the woman told a translator she came from China to New York before being brought to the Twin Cities.

In January 2017, officers responded to another backpage.com ad in Richfield. The complaint said the woman admitted to engaging in prostitution. The woman went on to tell officers she lived with Tsering and gave him money she earned from prostitution.
