A judge ordered that copies of body camera video excerpts from former Minneapolis police officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng that were filed to the court on July 7 will be allowed to be obtained by media or members of the public. The excerpts are from the time immediately before, during and after the detainment and death of George Floyd.
According to an order from the court on Friday, Judge Peter Cahill ruled in favor of the media coalition challenging a court order that prohibited the public from viewing the body camera video that was submitted as evidence in Lane's motion to dismiss the charges against him.
The court had previously permitted media representatives and members of the public to view the video in person at the Hennepin County Courthouse by appointment, but they were not allowed to obtain copies of the video.
