Police are searching for the suspect or suspects who fatally shot a man in North Minneapolis overnight Monday into Tuesday.

The incident happened just before midnight on the 3400 block of Newton Avenue North, according to authorities.

"We got the ShotSpotter while we were en route and someone called saying there was someone down in the alley," John Elder, public information officer with the Minneapolis Police Department, said.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in the alley mentioned. Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Authorities said they will return to the neighborhood later Tuesday morning to continue conducting an investigation.
