Inaugural World Snow Sculpting Championship kicks off in Stillwater

The World Snow Sculpting Championship is underway in Stillwater’s Lowell Park.

The opening ceremony happened Tuesday, with the sculpting competition starting Wednesday.

The event is free and runs through Sunday.

The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event, which is sanctioned by the Finland-based International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture.

Teams from around the world will converge in Stillwater to create their masterpieces and compete for the cash prize and world title.

"It’s Minnesota so dress warm," Robin Anthony with Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce said. "We’re going to have a great beer tent that will be heated, a concession warming tent with hot coco and coffee. We’ll have a snow store and food trucks a lot of great things will be happening."
