Homicide investigation underway after man found on Minneapolis bike path

Minneapolis police have launched a homicide investigation after a death late Monday night.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of West River Parkway at about 11:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a man who "had suffered trauma" on the bike path. Officers said the man was not breathing and didn't have a heartbeat.

The Minneapolis Fire Department and paramedics were called to the scene. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers worked to gather evidence and speak to those who may have heard or seen anything at the scene.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the man's identity and official cause of death.
