New homeless encampment near Lake of the Isles leaving a mess

January 17, 2019 07:05 AM

People living near Lake of the Isles say a group of homeless individuals have set up camp in a popular area.

The encampment is located in a wooded area next to a dog park on West Lake of the Isles Parkway.

And now residents want it cleaned up.

"Right now, it's really a mess," neighbor Jim Smart said. "It really needs to be cleaned. It's not safe. It's a health hazard."

The Minneapolis Park District says they became aware of the homeless camp last week.

They're working on getting the people there into shelters, and hope to have the area cleaned up by the end of the week.
