Updated: July 11, 2019 05:46 AM

Officials said Wednesday that nearly 120 people who were at the "Big Island" area of Lake Minnetonka over the Fourth of July weekend have reported being ill.

Hennepin County Public Health said earlier in the week that officials were investigating multiple illness reports that may be associated with Big Island over the holiday weekend. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the county said it has returned 140 calls from people reporting illnesses, and 116 of those have met the case definition of being at Big Island during the holiday weekend and having since exhibited symptoms of vomiting and/or diarrhea.
