Two people were killed in an early morning crash Monday morning in Polk County, Wisconsin.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to U.S. Highway 8, approximately a half-mile east of 15th Street in Beaver Township, at about 5:29 a.m.


When first responders arrived on scene, they found that two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash, and both drivers were dead, the sheriff's office said.

Based on preliminary information, the sheriff's office said one vehicle appeared to be traveling east on Highway 8 when it crossed into the left lane for westbound traffic and collided with a westbound vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

The victims' identities are being withheld until notification of next of kin.
