A man is dead after his wife reported him missing on Lake Mille Lacs, according to a release from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities located the man, identified as 59-year-old Daniel Gable, of Hastings, deceased in his boat, which had washed ashore south of Cash's Landing on the west side of Lake Mille Lacs in Kathio Township.

Authorities responded to the welfare check/missing person report made by Gable's wife at around 11:06 p.m. Friday, July 19.

Gable had reportedly been fishing on the lake earlier that day and had not checked in with family or friends, nor had he checked into his hotel.

Authorities located Gable's truck at Cash's Landing. Deputies began a search on the water and were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol Air Support Division with a helicopter equipped with infrared technology early Saturday morning. Pointing to dark, foggy conditions as well as high waves, authorities were not able to locate Gable during their first search.

Authorities set out a second time during the daylight hours on Saturday and located Gable's boat approximately 1000 feet from the landing.

An autopsy by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office of Ramsey is pending.
