It's a pretty significant year for potholes due to the snowfall we've had. And then this past week, we've had a lot of melting and then at night it begins to freeze and that's the recipe for creating potholes.
Kevin Gutknecht with MnDOT says we have big challenges for crews fixing potholes. Friday afternoon, they faced a serious pothole issue.
"We had a chunk of roadway that was inside a construction project that we were having a lot of problems with. So we closed down the lane and went in and did a temporary fix," Gutknecht said.
The city of Minneapolis is also having its issues with potholes. One particular road that's troublesome for drivers is 42nd street.
"I've been all around-- they're everywhere. They're lovely as always. When are they going to get out there and fix the roads?" Josh Sorenson said.
In St. Paul, Ayd Mill Road is a rough one to drive down. Drivers slowed down, dodged them and even drove up on the median to miss them altogether.
"Actually, I'm about to go down there right now," Anthony Bond said.
To St. Paul's credit, they've had crews out all week and they're doing some pothole patching in the evenings and over the weekend.
