Steve Linders, a spokesperson for the St. Paul Police Department, has confirmed to KSTP that the gold ball (finial) has been found.

The police department posted on Twitter Tuesday night.

The ball was found after someone reported seeing it in a parking lot on the 1200 block of Lexington Parkway North. The department also noted it was found in a giant Christmas stocking.

No one has bee arrested. Police are still investigating.

Officials at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory say a thief or thieves scaled the conservatory dome over the weekend and made off with the gold ball (finial) from the top.

Security footage released by the zoo appears to show a group of five people about to enter, then one person leaving with the finial.

Como Park spokesperson Matt Reinartz said it's hard to place a financial value on the item stolen, but he said there is historical and sentimental value and Como Park would like it back.

"We're asking the people that took it to please return it to us," he said. "It means nothing to you. It means everything to us and to the two million visitors that visit us annually."

Reinartz said it's hard to imagine how the thief or thieves actually managed to scale the conservatory between Saturday night and Sunday morning

"It's an incredible challenge," he said. "I can't believe someone would do that. It's not a wise thing to do."
