Funeral plans are set for the corrections officer from the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights who died earlier this week after a medical emergency.
Officer Joseph Parise, 37, had responded around noon Monday to an assault on another officer by an inmate. He returned to his post following the assault and suffered the medical emergency. He was taken to Regions Hospital, where he later died.
Parise's funeral will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel. A procession and interment at Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater will follow the funeral.
Parise's cause of death has not yet been determined.
The Oak Park Heights prison was placed on lockdown following the assault. Wednesday, the facility remained on "modified lockdown," meaning some programming had resumed and inmates had access to showers and phones, according to the Department of Corrections.
Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Parise.
