From ACT Tests to Prom: Schools Cancel, Reschedule Events Due to Snow

April 13, 2018 10:13 PM

The list of canceled or rescheduled events throughout the metro is growing because of significant snow that is expected to accumulate Saturday.

Maple Lake and Saint Agnes schools have cut their ACT tests this weekend. Champlin Park canceled any all activities on Saturday.

Visitation School made the difficult decision to cancel prom and Freshmen Fling.

To avoid canceling the prom, Coon Rapids High School moved the dance from Saturday to Sunday.

This gives Kevin Platte and Kerman Anvartena, both foreign exchange students, the opportunity to have a real American high school experience.

"I didn't ask anyone, I'm going with friends," Kerman said.

Kevin, on the other hand, went with tradition.

"I asked a senior," he said.

Lisa Steibel, their host parent, said the boys spent a bit of money on the event.

"Two-hundred dollars for the rentals for the tuxes," she said. "Flowers are about $30."

Steibel said  they had just finished paying off the tuxes when they got an email from the school's principal about the dire situation with prom.

"We actually read the message from the principal that it might be canceled or postponed," she said.

Luckily, the tux place is letting the boys have an extra day to look sharp.
