First-timers at the Fair

For many Minnesotans, summertime includes a stop at the State Fair. However, it's not just Minnesotans that come to the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

"We're amazed, we love it, we've been wanting to do this for a lot of years," said Mary Ellen Gilbert, who came to opening day of the 2019 State Fair from Calgary.

Gilbert and her family made the trek from Canada to experience everything the fair has to offer — from live music and the Midway rides to animals and exhibits — and you can't forget the food.

"So the food is what we are so excited for and we've been hearing about it for years, so far we've tried the corn, the pronto pups," Gilbert said.

Another couple came from across the pond to check out the State Fair.

"It's wild, it's crazy, we've got loads of festivals in the UK we were told to compare it and it competes," said Robbie Crace, who came from London.

While Crace said they also came to visit relatives, they said they were impressed by the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

And with Thursday's great start, there's sure to be plenty of other first-timers taking in the fair over the next 11 days, and of course those who stop by to enjoy the fair each and every year.
