A firefighter and a resident were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a fire at an assisted living facility in St. Louis Park.
The incident happened at about 4:45 a.m. at the Sholom Menorah Plaza Apartments on Minnetonka Boulevard.
According to firefighters, a resident on the eighth floor was hurt although the extent of those injuries was unknown.
The fire was contained to the eighth floor, according to authorities.
"The alarm was sounding which means the sprinkler system was activated and there were heavy smoke conditions on the eighth floor," St. Louis Park Assistant Fire Chief Hugo Searle said. "The fire was controlled by the sprinkler system and was extinguished completely by the responding crews."
Searle added several residents were displaced as a result of damage to their units.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
