The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday that it is reviewing Jacob Wetterling investigative documents that were returned to the bureau by a state court order, according to a news release.
The announcement came the same day as the Stearns County Sheriff's Office released 41,787 documents in connection to the investigation. The FBI has 12,545 files that were not part of the Stearns County release.
The release said a number of individuals and media outlets have requested the FBI's case file under the Freedom of Information Act. Those requests are currently pending.
The FBI is processing FOIA requests based on the size of the requested records. The FBI said records requested by three or more individuals will be made public online.
