Fatal Stabbing Under Investigation in Newport

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Sunday morning in the city of Newport. 

According to a news release, the sheriff's office responded to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of 6th Ave around 6:30 a.m. An adult male and an adult female were transported to a nearby hospital, but the male did not survive. 


Washington County Sgt. Mike Benson confirmed to KSTP it is a domestic situation. No other suspects are involved. 

Luis Jamie tells KSTP that his sister stabbed her husband in self-defense during an argument. 

"The blade was there, she got him in the abdomen," Jamie said. "He backed away, collapsed and she was able to escape with her dogs."

Authorities didn't verify what Jamie told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.  

The sheriff's office and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are currently investigating the incident.
