Fatal house fire in Woodbury under investigation

Authorities are investigating what caused a fatal house fire in Woodbury Tuesday morning.

The fire, which authorities said killed one person, occurred at a home along the 300 block of Meadow Lane.

Woodbury firefighters said they received a call from a neighbor reporting the fire at about 6:19 a.m. The neighbor reported seeing smoke and fire emanating from the house.

Firefighters worked to extinguish flames that had spread to the roof as well as any remaining hotspots.

Authorities searched the rest of the home to make sure no one else was inside.

"I tried to kick in the side door over there and it just wasn't budging," neighbor Joshua Anderson said. "So I'm like, 'We got to go to the front door,' and I kicked it about three times and I got the door open and I get this overwhelming plume of smoke. So I get low and I'm trying to get in there and I can't get in there. So I tell my neighbor, 'Throw a rock in the side window so maybe we can get some cross ventilation going in there.' And we did that, threw it in there, but it just wasn't enough."

The investigation into what caused the fire remains ongoing.
