Five-year-old Jayda Holmes is out of the hospital and continues recovering from a bullet wound to her foot.

On Wednesday, she enjoyed her first full day with her family outside of the emergency room.  Despite having a cast on her leg, she smiled from ear to ear while sitting in the back of her family's car.  She can't walk on her own for a month, according to her doctor's orders. Jayda either has to be carried or use a wheelchair.

Her foot is bandaged, protecting the injury caused when a lump of metal tore through her foot early Monday morning when someone shot up the side of her home on Fourth Street North in Minneapolis. Trauma surgeons repaired the broken bones in her right foot.

A bullet hit Holmes body while she was asleep in her own bed. When asked how's her foot doing, she gestured back with a thumbs up."

Holmes, her two brothers and mom, Martha Timberlake, briefly visited the house to collect some belongings to take with them while they temporarily stay at a hotel.

Holmes's mom said Wednesday she needs to leave the area for the safety of her family.  Even though she and police are convinced the gunfire was intended for someone else in the duplex complex, the family is too scared to stay.

"She was caught in somebody else's drama, and I'd rather have a single-family home so I don't have to deal with this again," Timberlake said.

Police are continuing to look for the shooter.
