The man who was shot and killed by Minneapolis police officers during a traffic stop has been identified by a man who says he is the victim's father as 23-year-old Dolal Bayle Idd.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening while officers were engaged in a traffic stop with a felony suspect at a Holiday gas station near East 36th Street and Cedar Avenue at about 6:15 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
During the stop, police said gunfire was exchanged and the man was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Police have not yet released the victim's identity. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday confirmed Idd's identity, listed his cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death to be a homicide.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, initial witness statements indicate the suspect fired at officers before officers returned fire.
Police said a woman in the passenger's seat was not injured, and officers were also not injured in the incident.
Arradondo said body camera footage of the fatal stop will be released to the public Thursday afternoon, at the earliest.
