The Crystal Airport was packed with people and families enjoying Father’s Day.

The airport’s Open House & Fly-in included airplane and helicopter rides, military planes and law enforcement trucks to see up-close and a pancake breakfast to start the day.

“We get to watch the planes take off all the time in our backyard and we got to finally experience it,” Crystal resident Tim Thorman said.

“We got a junior pilot here,” Thorman said about his young daughter Claire. “We were going up and down and side to side — it was great."

Families also got to interact with local emergency responders. Members of the Minnesota National Guard were there as well, highlighting one of their utility trucks.

For those who were there around noon, they got to enjoy a Warbird flyover and a lunch from the Westphal American Legion.

The event also benefited the Crystal Lions Club and the Near Food Shelf.
