Dylan Bennett, wanted for murdering his parents, Carol and Barry Bennett of Long Prairie, was arrested in Cancun, Mexico on Saturday.

Mexican law enforcement located Bennett in his Cancun hotel and took him into custody shortly before noon on Saturday, according to a release from the Todd County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's office release states that Bennett had intended to turn himself in to the FBI and contacted Todd County Sheriff Steve Och just prior to his arrest. Mexican authorities made their arrest before Minnesota investigators could communicate that information, the release states.

The arrest comes after authories found Carol and Barry Bennett shot to death in their Long Prairie home on Aug. 21.

The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension learned that Bennett purchased an airline ticket from Ohio to Cancun earlier this week. Authorities had reportedly been tracking his cellphone and credit card activity in Cancun. That information was then relayed to Mexican authorities through the FBI.

Barry Bennett was a former NFL defensive lineman, and played for the Vikings for one season.
