Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge is not operating, a city spokesperson confirms to WDIO News.

The Lift Bridge is currently in the down position for cars to cross into and out of Park Point. Vessels however, would have to use Superior's entry.

City officials say the issue has been determined to be from the weight of ice from this weekend's storm.

Hoses were turned on around noon Tuesday to try de-icing the lift bridge, which hadn't lifted since last Friday because of the storm, WDIO reports.

When operators went to bring it up Monday, it wouldn't move more than a few inches. Engineers figured the ice made it too heavy for the motors, which is the first time they can recall it something like that happening.
