After officers located a stolen vehicle, the driver fled, crashed and is refusing to cooperate with police in Maplewood Tuesday night.

St. Paul police spokesperson Steve Linders said there is a large police presence and people should avoid the area of the residence located at 1766 Sylvan Street in Maplewood, where the driver crashed.

The suspect is said to be armed and is refusing to leave the vehicle.

KSTP reporter Beth McDonough at the scene says a few homes in the area have been evacuated and the St. Paul, Maplewood and Roseville police departments are all at the scene.

According to a source at the scene, the suspect is armed with a handgun. A crisis negotiator is on his way to the scene, and the SWAT team is active as well.
