A man received multiple citations after a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus and pickup truck in Yellow Medicine County on Friday.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office was called to the crash on County Road 8, just south of 240th Avenue in Friendship Township, at about 3:50 p.m.

The sheriff's office said the truck was headed south when it drifted into the northbound lane. The bus driver, Claire Erickson, 64, of Cottonwood, tried to avoid the truck by entering the edge of the road ditch, but the truck struck the school bus on the driver's side.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged, but all 41 students on board the school bus were checked at the scene and no injuries were reported, the sheriff's office said. Both drivers also avoided injury.

The truck driver, Tracy Kocher, 41, of Echo, told authorities he fell asleep. He was cited for multiple violations.

The sheriff's office said the accident remains under investigation, but no other impairment was detected.
