Updated: July 05, 2019 10:49 AM

The world's largest flying American flag, the "PNC Salutes America" balloon, took to the skies Wednesday to kick off Independence Day Celebrations.

Following the recent Women's Veterans Appreciation Day, five female armed service veterans watched the massive star-spangled banner's launch.

Pilot Barry DiLibero created the balloon after the events of 9/11, flying the flag every year since the attacks.

This five-story tall display of patriotism will make another appearance this month at the 37th Annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, July 26-28 in Readington, New Jersey.

The American flag balloon is 53 feet fall, 78 feet wide and 29 feet deep.

It weighs about 530 pounds and requires 30 million BTUs of propane to be fully inflated.
