On Tuesday, Walter Mondale was honored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The former vice president and U.S. senator had part of William O'Brien State Park named after him. In total, five re-dedicated facilities will now bear his name:

  • The Walter F. Mondale Day Use Area
  • The Walter F. Mondale Scenic Riverway on the St. Croix River
  • The Walter F. Mondale Scenic Overlook and Trail at Interstate State Park
  • The Walter F. Mondale Visitor Center at St. Croix State Park
  • The Walter F. Mondale River Trail at Wild River State Park

As a senator, Mondale worked to preserve places like William O'Brien State Park by sponsoring the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 1968.
