A medical examiner has ruled the death of a corrections officer who had a medical emergency after previously responding to an assault on another officer a homicide.
Oak Park Heights Correctional Officer Joseph Parise died Sept. 24. According to his death certificate, his primary cause of death was acute coronary syndrome, with a secondary cause of ischemic heart disease.

His death was ruled a homicide because the medical examiner takes circumstances into account when determining manner of death.
Parise was the second of two corrections officer who died on the job this year. Joseph Gomm was killed in July at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater. Inmate Edward Muhammed Johnson is facing two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree assault in connection to the fatal assault.
