Cedar Lake's South Beach Set for Upgrades

November 19, 2017 09:16 PM

Construction on Cedar Lake's South Beach in Minneapolis will begin Monday.

The project will bring improvements for bikers, runners, swimmers and sunbathers. The construction will close the beach (one of three on Cedar Lake) until it's complete in time for the Fourth of July.

In March, an anonymous donor promised to pitch in up to $409,000, but only if the project included a restroom with plumbing. A three-season restroom will be built, along with a seating plaza, a stairway to the beach and a wider path for pedestrians and bikers.

Jocelyn Hale, who lives nearby, said she can't wait to see it complete.

"This is a much beloved beach and I've actually been swimming here since childhood," Hale said. "I think it will be great for the community and used all summer long."
