Once the state Legislature returns to session in February, Sen. Paul Anderson and Sen. David Osmek plan to introduce a bill to rename the highway. The bill must be passed to rename the roadway.

The resolution going before the Wayazata City Council Tuesday would support that effort.

Mathews was killed on Sept. 8 while he was clearing debris from Highway 12. Beth Freeman, the woman who hit and killed him with her vehicle, has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of driving after cancellation of her driver's license.
