City of Red Wing offering free sand to residents

March 14, 2019 03:12 PM

With the rain and snow melt, the City of Red Wing is offering free sand to residents.

The Red Wing Police Department said residents looking for sand for sand-bagging operations can go the city lot at 2050 Levee Road. You will need to bring your own tools and bags to collect and transport the sand, though.

The sand is to help prevent water from getting into residents' basements and other local flooding.

The department also encouraged citizens to enroll in the Goodhue County Code Red notification system, and to check for updates at the county and City of Red Wing websites.
