The crash that killed 62-year-old Gary Brisky is still under review, according to the Mille Lacs County Attorney.

The crash, which occurred in Chisago County on March 11, 2017, was handed off to the Mille Lacs County attorney because the driver of the vehicle that struck Brisky's car was driven by Chisago County Commissioner Lora Walker.

The incident occurred while Walker was traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 35, according to authorities.

During an email exchange with KSTP, Mille Lacs County Attorney Joe Walsh gave no explanation as to why the case is still ongoing.

Friends and neighbors in Minong, Wisconsin, where Brisky lived, said they would like some answers for the small town and Brisky's family.

Minong resident Tom Morris said he happened to be driving the other direction on I-35 the day Brisky was killed and witnessed the scene just moments after the crash occurred.

"We were driving back to the casino in Hinckley and on the horizon we could see a ball of flames," Morris said. "And when we got closer his car was just engulfed in flames."

Morris said he and his wife, who knew Brisky, did not know at that moment that it was one of their neighbors who was in the crash.

"The next day it was very shocking to hear that it was Gary Brisky," he said. "And in a small town, of course, it has an effect and now people would just like to know what happened. It would be good to have closure for the community and for the family, because they are decent people and my heart goes out to them."

Skip Fiedler, a friend of Brisky's, said Brisky owned a real estate business in Minong and was very active in the community.

"He was just a great guy and he was very involved in the community, because he loved it here and he loved the people and he loved his family," Fiedler said. "And we all just want to know what the heck happened on that highway."

Walker did not respond to requests for comment.

Several members of Brisky's family said they are anxious to find out more information about the crash. A family attorney told KSTP they are preparing a civil lawsuit.
