The Olmsted County Medical Examiner’s Office planned to conduct an autopsy Wednesday to confirm accidental drowning as the cause of death of a 7-year-old Owatonna boy whose body was recovered from a rural Dodge County pond Tuesday night.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office confirmed the body recovered Tuesday is that of the boy, who had been reported missing, Rochester TV station KAAL reports.
Authorities first received a report of a missing child at Naylor's Pond around 4:18 p.m. Tuesday. The initial report was that the boy had been swimming with friends and had been missing for about 10 minutes.
Responders arrived on scene and immediately began a search of the pond and surrounding areas.
According to a man at the scene who identified himself as Justin Kuhlman, the boy's father, his son Gabriel went fishing with his brother and next door neighbor.
At approximately 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, divers located the boy’s body in a deeper part of the pond near the area where he was last seen by friends.
