Charges: Man Stabbed Victim with Machete 8 to 10 Times in Farmington

A Farmington man is facing charges after authorities say he stabbed another man eight to 10 times after an argument. 

A criminal complaint states Giao Cong Bui faces one count of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault. 


The complaint says officers responded around 10:30 p.m. on July 1 to a home in Farmington on reports of an assault. When officers arrived at the home, they located a victim covered in blood.

The victim told police Bui had stabbed him. A witness, Bui's roommate, also said he saw Bui stab the man after an argument, according to the complaint. Bui's roommate said the two had been arguing prior to the stabbing. 

Police located Bui on July 3. 

During an interview, Bui told police the victim had come over to smoke meth with him and his roommate. Bui said the victim disrespected him and put him in a headlock.

Bui said he we to his room and got a machete, but the victim knocked the machete from his hand and put him in a headlock. Bui then hit the victim with the machete multiple times. 

If found guilty, Bui could serve up to 13 years in prison.
