The church's pastor said the small church community had just finished decorating for Christmas earlier in the day.

"This congregation has lay leadership that we look for in almost every church; people that really take hold of their identity and take hold of their mission to run the church." Eli Somers said. " So thinking about their future we see promising things and so to have this happen is just ... it's just hard."

Church officials said no one was inside at the time of the fire.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting in the investigation, which authorities said is routine in church fire investigations.
