Busy travel day Wednesday at MSP Airport

The day after Christmas, Wednesday is a busy travel day at the airports.

A KSTP crew at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported seeing crowds of people on their way to their destinations.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission said the TSA expects to screen more than 45,000 people at MSP Airport security checkpoints Wednesday, which is about 5 percent more than the number of people screened during the same period last year.

In comparison, the spokesman said about 38,000 people are screened during an average day at the airport.

The spokesman reminded those picking people up or dropping them off that areas around the airport will be congested Wednesday. He advised picking people up at ticketing entrances might be faster than at baggage claim entrances.

The busiest times at the airport are expected to be from 9-10 a.m. and 3-5 p.m., the spokesman said.

AAA reports Wednesday is expected to be one of the busiest day of the year at airports, as people start flying home after Christmas.
