Authorities found dozens of needles discarded in buckets along a rural road in Chisago County.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office said Monday that three buckets filled with needles were found discarded in a ditch along the roadway at 492nd Street W. and Basswood Road W. in Nessel Township at about 9:05 a.m.

"This is not okay! Don't worry, we'll dispose of them properly," the department said in its post.

The department said the needles appeared to be unused.

The sheriff's office encouraged anyone wanting to drop off sharp items or needles to do so at the Chisago County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in North Branch. Hard-sided containers are recommended when disposing of needles.

You can find more information about properly disposing of needles here.
