Police in Brooklyn Park are searching for a man they say kidnapped a woman from the parking lot of an Aldi grocery store on May 12 and attempted to sexually assault her.

A release said officers were dispatched around 8:10 p.m. on May 12 to Aldi located at 7600 Brooklyn Blvd. A male suspect allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and forced her to drive to another location. There, the suspect reportedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The release states the woman was able to get away and called 911. A short segment of the series of events is said to have been captured on surveillance video. Police have shared some of the footage, hoping the public may recognize the suspect.

Investigators called the attack brazen and rare.

"What is concerning is it appears to be a stranger abduction and attempted rape," Brooklyn Park Deputy Police Chief Mark Bruley said. "And that is everybody's worst nightmare."

Brooklyn Park police are also asking for help from the public in the investigation. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to call the department at 763-493-8287.
