A man is dead after a struggle with police in Brooklyn Center on Saturday.
According to the Brooklyn Center Police Department, officers were called to the 5900 block of Halifax Avenue for a domestic assault involving a weapon at 4:18 p.m.
Officers encountered the man on the scene, and a struggle took place in which police shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer received an abrasion on the arm as a result of the struggle.
The officers involved have been placed on standard administrative leave. All officers were wearing body cameras.
Neighbors stated that they heard what they believed to be gunshots at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
"I didn't know they were shots at the time. Again I thought it was just police trying to break their way into the house," Zoey Seely, a neighbor, said. "You don't expect, watching college football on a Saturday, that the bang that you heard is your friend dying."
Seely also stated that the man was 21 years old and had been staying with his family in the neighborhood. Authorities have not released his identity.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension arrived on the scene at around 8 p.m.
According to the BCA, the investigation is in its very early stages. The Brooklyn Center Police Department released initial information last night. The BCA will have additional information once their initial interviews with incident participants and witnesses is completed.
