Brides blindsided by Lake Elmo bridal consignment store closing

Updated: October 18, 2019 08:28 PM

Some brides say they were blindsided by the sudden closure of a Lake Elmo business. Now they're worried Bride To Be Consignment may not reimburse them for items they brought there to be sold.

Bride To Be Consignment closed its doors at the Lake Elmo store on Oct. 6. A sign in the door says, "no consignments, no holds, no layaways. If you have stuff please pick up by Sunday."

Sunday has passed and one woman told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she has no way to get her items or money she's owed because the shop isn't answering calls or emails.

Jessica Boote had a similar experience.

"It took a very long time and I called them several times and couldn't get through to anybody, no one ever called me back. I really felt like I never was going to get the money for the dress," Boote said.

She said Bride To Be Consignment sold a dress of hers and it took nearly six months and a bad review to get paid what she was owed.

"Not surprising, based kind of on the dealing I've had it seems like they're having a hard time. And it makes me nervous for everyone else that is still waiting to get their garments back or get a payment from these people," said Boote.

KSTP called several times and emailed, but has yet to receive a response.

At the moment, former customers are unsure if they'll get paid or get their stuff back.
