According to Commander Wayne Heath of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement was contacted around 6:40 p.m. for a boater that was in distress on Peltier Lake. The boater was witnessed to fall out of the boat into the water, and they did not resurface.
As of 9:20 p.m., the search continued for the missing boater. Authorities continued to use Sonar through the night.
Will Smith was fishing on the shore when he said the noise from the boat caught his attention.
"I was just fishing, turned around and saw the boat going in circles and circles and circles and nobody was in the boat," Smith said.
He said the boat was 500 feet from the shoreline when it was circling. Smith said he did not see anyone else on the boat and did not see the man resurface.
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit continued to search for the boat operator. According to a release, at approximately 11 p.m., the missing boater was located submerged and deceased underwater.
Sunday, the sheriff's office identified the boater as 64-year-old Rodney Callendar Sr. of St. Paul.
The Lino Lakes Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division will continue to investigate this incident.
