Another bog breaks free on lake in Brainerd area

Another bog has broken free on a lake in the Brainerd area.

The Gilbert Lake Association reports a bog appeared in the channel between the main Gilbert Lake and Lake 3 in Crow Wing County. It is a combination of bog material normally found near the lake and material from the channel.


As of Thursday, it left room only for a canoe or kayak to get through.

Gilbert Lake Association president Todd Froemming has scheduled a meeting at 7 p.m. Friday to discuss how best to deal with the issue, the group said.

Last year, a four-acre bog broke off from the east shore of North Long Lake, lodging near the shoreline of the lake's Legionville School Patrol Safety Camp.
