The Bowlus, Minnesota, Post Office is closed until further notice due to safety and health concerns, the United States Postal Service announced Sunday.

"The structure contains visual evidence of water damages on walls, ceilings, building materials or floor coverings promoting microbial growth with evidence of deterioration in walls or windows," USPS strategic communications specialist Kristy Anderson said.

While the Bowlus office is closed, postal services for the area have been moved to the Royalton Post Office. Residents can still drop outgoing mail in the Bowlus collection box, USPS said.

The health concerns were discovered during a full facility assessment, according to USPS. Anderson said a third-party firm will evaluate the facility. The Bowlus Post Office is a leased facility, so USPS will work with the landlord to facilitate repairs.

"At this time, it is unknown when services will resume at the Bowlus facility," a release from USPS stated.
